Workout While Away!

Looking outside and seeing huge snow banks can drive anyone to want to get away, head down south and have some fun in the sun.  Having fun doesn’t have to mean drinking the entire bar, eating the entire buffet and slacking off on all the fitness progress you’ve made.

There are many quick, easy, efficient ways to burn a few calories without losing any time at the swim up bar. Even if you travel a lot for business you can take advantage of the fitness centre in the hotel or there are a few items you can pack that you can use in the hotel room.

Rubber exercise bands are great tools that take up virtually no space in your suitcase that can give you a great workout and make you sweat. Using your own body weight can also give you a great workout. Here’s an example of a short circuit training program that uses your body weight and bands that targets every major muscle group and would not take much time at all:

  • Body weight squats 15 reps
  • Push ups to Mountain Climber 10 reps
  • Split Squats 10 reps each leg
  • Band Bicep Curls 15 reps
  • Wall Sit 30 seconds
  • Band Triceps Kickbacks 10 each arm
  • Band Single Arm Row 10 each arm
  • Planks 30 seconds

Complete this circuit with minimal rest between exercises and repeat the circuit 2-3 times in Less than 15 minutes. The bottom line is you can still exercise while on vacation or business without taking away too much play time. You have to make the time or you will never find the time.  So enjoy the warm weather, the food and the drinks with the umbrellas but don’t forget about all the progress you’ve made toward your fitness goals.
