Olympics to Inspire Active Lifestyle?

Written by Becky

With the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia all eyes will be on some of the top athletes in the world. As the world watches the top athletic performers, hopefully it inspires us all to be more active. This was the idea of the Russian Olympic Committee a few months ago in preparation for the Games. In an effort to promote the Olympics, the Russian Olympic Committee wanted to add an element of sport in everyone’s daily life. Therefore, they launched  this campaign  in November 2013 for  transit riders.

As the video shows, subway riders are given the opportunity to get a free subway ticket if they are able to perform 30 squats within two minutes.  Although some users could use some work on their technique, the Russian Olympic Committee has the right idea to get people moving. We don’t have to be Olympic athletes to get the benefits of exercise. Although the free subway campaign was only available for three months, there are a lot of ways you can easily  increase your physical activity in your daily life. Take the stairs, enjoy a skate on the canal, or try doing squats while you wait for the bus!

How will the Winter Olympic Games motivate you to add more movement in your day?
